the dog days of winter

Like their human counterparts, our pups also feel the weight of the holiday season.  With so much going on around them, they're well-deserving of a home-baked treat.  Serve these when your pup is curled up around your legs, under the covers, drooling on your face, and taking up three-quarters of your couch.  He will love you even more.

cheddar pumpkin treats
adapted from Doggy Dessert Chef

1 cup fresh pumpkin puree
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup flour (or soy flour if your pup is gluten-free)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.  Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until well combined.

Spread by hand onto the prepared baking sheet 1/4 inch thick. Take a pizza cutter and score the dough horizontally and then vertically to make a grid.  Or cut into seasonal shapes.

Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until browned at the edges.  Cool and break into pieces then refrigerate.
